Angie’s A – Z of Crafts The Letter C

My version of the A – Z of crafts.  The Letter C.

CALLIGRAPHY

This is fancy penmanship, especially highly decorative handwriting, as with a great many flourishes and is the

art of writing beautifully:

It is a script, usually cursive, although sometimes angular, produced chiefly by brush, especially Chinese, Japanese, or Arabic writing of high aesthetic value.
Fine Arts. line or a group of lines either derived from or resembling letter forms and characterized by qualities usually associated with cursive writing, especially that produced with a brush or pen.

CHAIN STITCH

This is a kind of ornamental hand stitching in which each stitch forms a loop through the forward end of the next.
It can also be a basic crochet stitch in which yarn is pulled with the crochet hook through a loop on the hook to form a continuous strand of interlocking single loops.

CHALK

This is a soft, white, powdery limestone consisting chiefly of fossil shells of foraminifers.
A  prepared piece of chalk or chalklike substance for marking, as a blackboard crayon.

CHARMS

These can be made out of metals or clay and are used to embellish projects.

CHART

This is what is followed when making a project especially with Cross Stitch.

CLAY

A natural earthy material that is plastic when wet, consisting essentially of hydrated silicates of aluminum: used for making bricks, pottery, etc. It can also be coloured and used to make smaller items such as needleminders and jewellery.

COASTER

Something that you put your mug on to keep from marking a table and is an ideal item to be used to display your needlework etc.  These can also be crocheted.

COLLAGE

Isa technique of composing a work of art by pasting on a single surfacevarious materials not normally associated with one another, asnewspaper clippings, parts of photographs, theater tickets, andfragments of an envelope.

CONFETTI

This is a type os stitch used in Cross Stitch where the stitches are spread out. Used to make effects and colouring on designs.

COPPERWIRE

This is a wire made from copper and used in jewellery making.  It can also be used to make embellishments for cards and scrapbooking.

COTTON

A soft, white, downy substance consisting of the hairs or fibers attached to the seeds of plants belonging to the genus Gossypium, of the mallow family, used in making fabrics, thread, wadding, etc.

CRAFT

This is an art, trade, or occupation requiring special skill, especially manual skill:

CROCHET

 needlework done with a needle having a small hook at one end fordrawing the thread or yarn through intertwined   loops.

CROSS STITCH

This is the way of creating a design with a needle and thread using small stitches in the shape of a X.

CUTTING MAT

This is something that is used to cut items such as paper and fabric with a cutting knife.  Most now are self heaing so no marks are left after using.
